TRAFFIC AND PARKING

Hunters Hill Public School fronts an arterial road and students entering and leaving the school via Alexandra Street must use the pedestrian crossing which is supervised by a RMS School Crossing Supervisor. Students entering and leaving via Stanley Road must cross near the Hunters Hill Hospital with caution, however, this is not recommended and it is preferred that all students enter and exit via the Alexandra Street gate. Under no circumstances are students permitted to enter or leave the school via the staff car parks. This is very dangerous and to reinforce this, the school insists that parents do not escort their child/ren through the staff car parks at any time.

There is a ‘Pick Up and Drop Off Zone’ at the front of the school. This is not for parking and parents must remain in their vehicles. Students should alight from and enter vehicles quickly.

Getting to and from school safely

As a parent or carer, it’s your responsibility to get your child to and from school safely. Student safety is our priority.

Keep our school community safe by:

  • driving and parking safely, even if it means parking further away and walking the rest of the way to school
  • being a good role model
  • never calling your child from across the road
  • using the safest place to cross the road.

For parents and carers of younger children

Discuss with your child how to be safe when:

Also talk about and practise:

  • safe travel routes
  • plans for when unexpected things happen
  • what to do in wet weather.

Subsidised school travel

Transport for NSW provides subsidies to assist school students.

  • The School Student Transport Scheme provides eligible students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school.
  • The School Drive Subsidy may help towards the costs of driving children to school if you live in an area where there is no public transport.

Bus travel

All students from Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two are entitled to free bus travel providing they apply for a pass. For new applications or for students with changing circumstances,  parents or guardians are required to fill in a form online at NSW transports - Child and student concessions. Once the school has endorsed the application, Transport NSW will mail the School Opal card to the applicant's home address.

Conditions for the issue of a Bus Pass are:

  • The Opal Card must be shown on entry to the bus or a fare must be paid.
  • Bus travel and passes may be cancelled if an act of vandalism occurs or unacceptable bus behaviour persists. The Bus Company may contact the parents directly over issues of unacceptable behaviour or over incidents that create a potential danger for other passengers.
  • The bus company has the right to suspend or cancel a pass at any time.

Parents are requested to carefully instruct their children as to correct behaviour whilst on the buses and how to behave appropriately and respect other people's property whilst awaiting the bus' arrival.

The school expects its students to exhibit pride in their school and conduct themselves accordingly when in public and travelling to and from school.
